- Do I need to schedule an appointment?
Please do. We try to fit walk-ins into our schedule whenever possible, but by making an appointment you can make sure an opening will be available when you come.
- How soon can I get an appointment?
You may be able to come in the same day you contact us. If there are no more openings that day, we can generally schedule your appointment within three business days.
- How long will my appointment take?
The length of time varies depending on the services you request and the questions you have. Generally, you will want to allow 45 minutes to an hour for your first visit. When you come for your first visit, please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time to complete paperwork before your scheduled appointment.
- How soon after I think I might be pregnant can I come in for a test?
We can schedule your appointment two or three days after you miss your period. If you aren't having regular cycles because of the birth control method you use, a recent pregnancy, or some other circumstance, please explain that when you contact us.
- Do I need to bring a urine specimen for my pregnancy test?
No, you can collect your urine specimen after you arrive at Blue Ridge Women's Center. Just avoid drinking anything for two to three hours before your appointment so that any hCG (the pregnancy hormone) in your urine will be concentrated enough to get an accurate test result.
- Can you provide pregnancy verification for Medicaid?
Yes, when you have a positive pregnancy test at Blue Ridge Women's Center. If you've had a positive pregnancy test at home but need nurse verification, we'll just need to do a retest here at the Center first.
- How much do you charge?
Blue Ridge Women's Center provides all services free of charge, regardless of your income level, because we think every woman should have access to quality care, accurate information, and community support.
- How can you offer your services without charging for them?
Blue Ridge Women's Center is funded by donations from people throughout our service area, and staffed by trained volunteers (including medical professionals who donate their services) in addition to paid personnel.
- Will you tell anyone that I came to Blue Ridge Women's Center?
We respect our clients' right to privacy. Client information is kept confidential within this organization except when there is threat of physical harm (i.e., homicide, suicide, child abuse, or child neglect), which the law requires us to report.
- I'm under 18. Can I schedule an appointment without my parents knowing?
Yes. Although we encourage you to involve your parents in your reproductive health decisions, when appropriate, none of the services provided by Blue Ridge Women's Center require parental notification or consent.
- Do you have professional counselors available?
Our Director of Clinical Services has a Master's degree in counseling. Other consultants have varying educational backgrounds; all have gone through a rigorous training process with Blue Ridge Women's Center, but they can provide only what is considered peer counseling. If you would like to see a licensed counselor, we would be glad to provide a referral for you.
- Do you provide Plan B® (emergency contraception, the morning-after pill)?
No, we don't—but if you're thinking about taking it, you can find out more about it here.
- Do you do abortions?
No, our medical clinics neither provide nor refer for abortion. However, we do provide medical services that many women considering abortion find beneficial—including limited obstetrical ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy test results, verify that you have a viable intrauterine pregnancy, and determine how far into your pregnancy you are.
Our medical professionals can answer your questions about abortion, and our pregnancy options consultants offer the opportunity to talk about your concerns and explore your options with someone who has experience addressing the issues unplanned pregnancy can create.
- Do you facilitate adoptions?
We can provide information about adoption, referrals to licensed adoption agencies, and a neutral place for a woman considering making an adoption plan to meet with an adoption social worker. However, we don’t act as an adoption agency matching adoptive parents with children, nor do we profit in any way from making adoption referrals.
If you want to find out more about making an adoption plan for your child, we offer a class called The Adoption Option that's a great place to start gathering information in a no-pressure environment—you can register online or by calling 362-4357. If you want to find out more about adopting a child, we recommend that you contact a licensed adoption agency such as Commonwealth Catholic Charities, Bethany Christian Services, or Family Life Services.
